Who is the St. George Football Referees Association Inc. or SGFRA? Established in the early 1970's, the organisation has continued to provide referee's to the local and state competitions.
St.GFRA Inc. was formed in early 1970's with the charter to provide referees to the various competitions run by the St. George Soccer Association. As an affiliated member of Football NSW, our members are also appointed to officiate at the various State run competitions. Members are also appointed to control the overflow of State League games that would be normally covered the NSW State League Referees Inc. (old ASRF NSW Div.) St. George is a small branch, in numbers, but leads the way, in NSW, with regards to the development of referees. We are proud to boast that we have had a current member selected by FIFA to attend preparation seminars in view of appointments to the 2010 World Cup. This is a new initiative by the world body and only one Australian has been selected. Over the period of time, since our inception, many members have progressed to higher honours and have been included on both the National League and National Youth League panels, included in National Talent Acceleration programs and officiated in the premier State run competitions. St. George trained referees have also been successful in winning and otherwise attaining high rankings in the various State Referee competitions and bearing in mind our small membership this ratio is very high. Our coaching staff are dedicated to the development and progression of our members and their efforts and commitment to this cause are the envy of many of the much larger organisation throughout the country. The coaching panel consists of past and current referees some of whom have achieved success in the local district all the way through to FIFA level. We are also in a position to utilise current FIFA accredited instructors on a consultancy and advisory basis. The coaching and development program is constantly being reviewed and upgraded ensuring all our members are offered the most up to date methods and techniques available not only in NSW but throughout the soccer world. Our membership includes both male and female referees and we also conduct a Cadet Referee program for prospective members between the ages of 12 and 14 years. The organisation is aware of its responsibilities toward child protection issues and has an accredited Member Protection and Information Officer who administers the day to day duties of such an office. Entry courses are mainly conducted at the beginning of each season and all new referees are required to undertake this National Entrance Program. From there it is up the individual member as to what level they want to reach and officiate at. For further details on courses etc. browse through the web site and if we can be of any assistance then please do not hesitate to contact the appropriate person or if in doubt contact the Secretary. |
